DTv: is it really that big of a deal?

Posted by goldfixe

Okay, so I'm watching Conan O'Brien tonight and he mentions that today is the big day where all tv goes digital and analog is abandoned. I thought it was bad enough when the local news channels were having a countdown every day. At the end of each news cast they would tell you haw many more days until D(tv)-Day. Honestly, do they think they are going to lose that many viewers? It's like if limburger cheese suddenly disappeared and were never made again. Most people wouldn't care because it's gross and there are other chees

es and the people who like limburger are few in number and stupid. That's the best analogy I could come up with. The limburger obviously represents analog tv and shows how small of a loss it is, for those who couldn't quite follow (if you got lost you most likely have an analog tv set). I'm quite confident in saying that those left in the digital dust with old analog sets are more than likely over the age of 75 and, lets face it, probably don't remember what they had for breakfast let alone remember to go buy a new-fangled converter box that one of their great-grandchildren will have to install for them. Don't get me wrong, I like old people just fine (some of them, anyways). But this demographic is less likely to have a new Samsung LCD in their living room. Instead, I envision a tv encased in wood, you know the kind. The kind where you have to get up and turn a dial to change the channel. Classic.

If you are currently unsure if you have successfully made the switch from analog to digital, I've included and easy to read flowchart from a favorite website of mine.
